THE FATHER DID NOT FORSAKE HIS SON ON THE CROSS!

I would like to offer a perspective and theologically make the case by stating that the Father DID NOT forsake His Son on the cross. I know what you're thinking. Matthew 27:46 states that Christ cried out with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" Which means, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? Asking a question is not the same as making a statement of fact. As for the question Jesus asked on the cross, lets look first to one of the most important rules of biblical interpretation. Scripture interprets scripture. Therefore, anytime Christ or any of the New Testament authors reference Old Testament scripture, it’s always best to read the referenced verses in complete context. That said, Matthew 27:46 is mainly a prophetic fulfillment of Psalm 22:1. This particular Psalm is one of the most prophetically rich chapters in the Bible. There are at least nine verses that prophetically gives readers a preview of the crucifixion (Psalm 22:1, 6-8, 11, 16, 18, 22, 24 – Read Below). The perspective I am proposing is that when Jesus uttered to the Father the words “why have you forsaken me”, He was claiming Messiahship from the Messianic verses of Psalm 22 as oppose to the idea that the Father had actually forsaken His Son. Psalm 22:24 clearly states that the person chapter 22 was referring to was NOT in fact forsaken, despised or had God’s face hidden from Him (Psalm 22:24 - FOR HE HAS NOT DESPISED OR ABHORRED THE AFFLICTION OF THE AFFLICTED, AND HE HAS NOT HIDDEN HIS FACE FROM HIM, BUT HAS HEARD, WHEN HE CRIED TO HIM.”). The Psalmist states that God in fact heard the Son when He cried to Him. In terms of being forsaken, Scripture declares in Isaiah 53:3 that Christ was despised and forsaken by people, not God. In fact, Christ’s own disciples forsook Him (John 16:32; Matthew 26:31), but Jesus declared in John 16:32 that while He would be forsaken by His followers, He would not be alone because the Father WAS WITH HIM. The truth of the matter is that when a person feels forsaken by people, especially those close to them, it can FEEL LIKE God has forsaken you as well. God cares for us through people and Jesus the huMAN while atoning for the sins of humanity, did not have the support of his own disciples to depend on, and it could have felt like abandonment from God as well. In the end, scripture affirms that the Father was indeed with Him and that He was not forsaken by His Father. Psalm 22 gives readers a prophetic biographical sketch of the coming Messiah, and Jesus proudly stakes His claim as the long awaited Messiah by exclaiming the immortal words of Psalm 22:1 and ending the same Psalm with the assurance that God will not only never forsake His Son, but equally important is that He will never forsake His adopted children as well. Today we celebrate the Triune God and His unfailing love, mercy and grace He has for humanity. Shalom and Baruch Ha Shem (Peace and Blessed Be His Name).

"Psalm Nuggets"

Chapter 77

During the reign of King Asa when the people of God were divided into two kingdoms, Israel and Judah, Asaph writes this song in a day of trouble propelling him to seek the Lord and cry out to Him for help. Asaph is in such anguish that nothing can comfort him. In verses 4-9, Asaph states that he is so troubled that he cannot sleep or speak. He begins to question whether or not God loves and cares for him. He wonders if God has forgotten him or is God angry with him. But then, the song takes a turn when Asaph takes his mind off of his circumstance and remembers the wonderful deeds God performed in times past. He meditates on the greatness of God in the midst of his troubles. He reference the word of God and the stories of old where God open up a way of escape for Israel at the Red Sea by the hand of Moses and Aaron. This song reminds believers everywhere that life is hard and troublesome at times, but when facing such burdensome trials and tribulations, REMEMBER WHO GOD IS AND WHAT HE HAS DONE IN THE PAST FOR YOU AND TO REMEMBER HIS WONDERS RECORDED IN SCRIPTURE! Be encouraged, the Lord rules and reigns. He has everything, including you and your circumstances, in His hands!!!
Chapter 76

Who can stand before God? Asaph declares that in Judah (Praise) God is known and His name is great amongst His people. How will the people around us and the whole world know about the Lord if the believers do not make praising God a priority? This song is another confirmation that the Lord is in control and that He is the ultimate Commander-In-Chief who overwhelmingly defeats His enemies. Because of the Lord's goodness and greatness, those who fear Him should perform their vows and bring gifts of worship to express gratitude for His protection and provisions. Authenticity in worship comes from those who genuinely fear the Lord and honors Him for Who He is! Be encouraged saints, GOD IS IN CONTROL and His ransom or payment from us is simply our praise and adoration of all that He is!

Chapter 75

Sennacherib, King of Assyria, came against King Hezekiah and the people of Judah, but the Lord delivered His people from the enemy by the efforts of the Angel of the Lord who slew 185,000 Assyrian warriors by Himself. Asaph writes a song of thanks unto the Lord Who is near His people and performs wondrous deeds in their midst. The Psalmist declares that God is sovereignly behind the promotion of a person. God is the supreme judge Who is responsible for setting up and putting down individuals in various positions at His desire. Everything that happens on the earth does so through the filter of God's sovereign reign. Simply put, GOD IS IN CONTROL! God will judge the wicked and He will exalt the righteous. The job of the believer is to worship the Lord and sing His praises forever. Let us not be weary or worry about governmental or political divisions, global conflicts, family issues, or personal trials and tribulations. Why, because God is in control and our only response should be to thank and worship Him. To do so, takes great faith. Faith to believe in and trust God with whatever He orders and allows in our life. We should be WORSHIP FOCUSED and not problem focused. God got this and He has you and me right where He wants us, IN HIS HANDS!!!
Chapter 74

This song is written during the prophetic reign of the Prophet Jeremiah when both Israel & Judah experienced a great fall as nations. Even the spiritual leaders such as Zephaniah had been taken as prisoners. Because their plight, Asaph begs God to arise and defend His people. As believers, when we do not understand why we are suffering or experiencing hardship, we ask the same questions Asaph asked in this song. Lord, why are you ignoring me? Why are you angry with me? We remind God that we are His children and that we are one of His redeemed. We remind God that our hardship is making Him look bad since we are His children. We ask, "how long long Lord will you let this go on?" The song takes a turn in verse 12 when the psalmist begins to remind himself of the power of God and the many wonders He performed in times past. Therefore child of God, when the enemy tempts you or plagues your mind with your current circumstances, remind yourself of the many things God has done for you in the past and the many things we read about in His word. Remember, God is in control and our circumstances are under His watchful eye. He has a reason for leading us in and through our problems. In the end, He wants our praise and for us to never cease following and walking with Him. He got this so we must trust Him.

Chapter 73

Are there times in your life where it seems somewhat futile to be a Christian and to live right by following the standards of God? Does it seem that unchurched and unrighteous people that you know appear to be more successful at life, business, career, parenting, etc.? These thoughts can produce much frustration and at times propel a person into a crisis of faith. This song by Asaph expresses these exact sentiments and caused him to "ALMOST" slip and fall. He felt that keeping his heart clean before God was vanity while the vilest of people never had problems and experienced the kind of prosperity that he felt should have been reserved for the righteous. Focusing on what others have as oppose to the goodness of God in one's own life can cause one to question both the existence of God and the validity of their faith. In verse 17, the song takes a turn. When Asaph went into the sanctuary of God, and began to see things from the Lord's perspective, and was able to see the end result of the wicked. Asaph began to focus on God and not others or his circumstances. He recognized that when walking with God CONTINUALLY, he received counsel & guidance. In verse 25 he comes to a place in his heart that GOD WAS HIS ONLY DESIRE and that God is his strength and portion forever. Verses 27 & 28 puts all of this in perspective. The wicked will eventually perish, and that those who choose to be near to God will experience blessings and will forever speak of the Lord's goodness in their lives. Be encouraged saints and don't worry about others or even your own problems, but keep the faith and your focus on the Lord for He is the AUTHOR & FINISHER OF YOUR FAITH!
Chapter 72

This psalm is considered to be the last song David writes before his death (verse 20). Before he writes this song, he prays a prayer in 1 Chronicles 29:10-19 where he asks God to give his son Solomon a perfect heart to keep the Lord's commandments and statutes. David then writes this song as a continuation of his prayer to God for Solomon to be a king that values justice, and to rule the people of God with a righteous hand. David beseeches God to bless Solomon with prosperity, to defend the poor and weak, to have dominion in the land, and to be a leader among other leaders. What a tribute David as a father commits to his son before dying and leaving the kingdom to Solomon. Let every parent who reads this commentary pray unto God for their children's welfare and future. May we all trust God and to entrust Him with ours and our children's lives and never give up on them no matter what their current spiritual or social status may be. God is sovereign and He will guide and bless our children the same as He has, does, and will do with their parents.

Chapter 71

Have you ever felt that your strength was all used up? King David certainly did as revealed in this song when he beseeches God to not forsake him. David declared that he takes his refuge and protection from God. He trusted God to deliver him from his present trouble. He saw God as his Rock and Fortress, who is available at all times for His people to run and retreat to. David begins to focus on praising and worshiping God in the midst of trouble, betrayal, and the plans of the enemy. In verse 20, David declared that God caused him to see many troubles and calamities, but through it all, GOD WILL REVIVE US AGAIN! Our worship does not depend on how good or bad circumstances may be, but it is a total trust and confidence in God that His will be done and know that whatever the situation, God has ordered for the good of the kingdom and for our ultimate good. Take courage saints and know that God won't always prevent trouble or challenges, but He expects us to run to Him, trust Him, and have confidence in the fact that He will take care of us.
Chapter 70

David is still fleeing for his life when writing this song. The anguish he finds himself in moved him to to ask God to be quick about delivering him. David acknowledges his utter poverty as one who is helpless and cannot help himself, but is dependent solely on the Lord for help and deliverance. Saints of God, keep the faith and know that you can always cry out to God before, during, and after a crisis in your life.
Chapter 69

This is yet another one of David's flight psalms. He is fleeing from his son Absalom who conducted a coup and ousted David from Jerusalem, Israel's physical seat of power. While Absalom sends warriors out to kill David, his father, David writes this song asking God to SAVE HIM! King David is feeling overwhelmed and weary. His heart is broken due to the fact that his own son not only wants his throne, but that his son also wants to kill him. He feels betrayed and hated without a cause. Ever felt that away about people close to you? Verse 9, words that relates to Jesus (John 2:17) explains how doing good may attract persecution from the wicked. However, in verse 13, David offers a prayer to God in what David calls an unacceptable time. Yet God in His infinite mercy hears our prayers all the time no matter the circumstances. David beseeches God to deliver Him from those seeking his hurt. Additionally, notice the contrast of David & Christ in response to verse 21. David response with bitterness by asking God to do his enemies harm. Conversely, in John 19:29, Jesus is given vinegar to drink after stating that He was thirsty. But Jesus responds by asking the Father to forgive his enemies. David's reaction isn't always the prescription for believers when confronting their issues, but David always finds a way to focus His frustrations back on worshiping God, because he knows that God will always hear the prayers of the righteous. Take courage saints and react to adversity not by bitterness, but by communicating with God and praising Him in any and all situations.

Chapter 68

David has just experienced victory and a return to the throne. He writes this song extolling God to arise and let His enemies be scattered. This psalm reminds us that the wicked will perish and their plans cannot and will not prosper against the righteous. Conversely, the righteous should maintain a posture of praise and being ecstatic about their position in God no matter what the situation looks like before them. As the nation prepares to celebrate Father's Day, what a joy to know that God is a Father to the fatherless and One Who looks after the well being of widows. God gives the lonely a family and provides joy for those in prison. This song confirms the majesty, power, and sovereignty of our holy and great God. The Lord can be trusted and we just need to rest in Him and His ability to lead and preserve us. The 28th verse declares that God has COMMANDED OUR STRENGTH. Our job then as followers of God is to worship Him and ascribe strength and excellence to His great name.
Chapter 67

This song is considered as one of the psalms written during Israel's captivity. In the midst of an adverse situation, the psalmist encourages us to praise God nonetheless. The request beseeches God to be merciful to His people and for Him to let His face shine upon them. If God's people simply praise and worship Him, increase and blessings will come. While many define increase and blessings as financial benefits resulting from worship, simply enjoying the presence of God and having the Lord fill our hearts is the greatest testimony of increase and blessings. If by chance material wealth or increase comes to us, let us praise God and keep the Lord as our central focus of worship. May we leave the results to God on how He wants to bless us. Let all the people praise Him. The Lord deserves all the honor and praise.

Chapter 66

This beautiful psalm was written during the days of Israel's captivity and probably written by the prophet Ezra. The priest and levites just recently built an altar to restore worship and holy sacrifices and the foundation of the rebuilt temple has just been laid. This song extols God for His awesome deeds. It commands its readers to shout unto God for joy and to offer God a glorious praise by singing glory to His name. The song encourages us to SAY TO GOD, HOW AWESOME ARE HIS DEEDS! All the earth worships Him. The song reminds us to look back at the wondrous deeds of our Lord in our lives to encourage us to offer God the praise that's due His name. BE NOT SILENT! Let the sound of praise be heard from every believer. Verse 9 states that God has not let our feet to slip and has kept us among the living. Praise be to our awesome God. Verse 10 acknowledges the fact that God does test His children and try us as silver is tried. Verses 11 & 12 references the fact that God at times will place heavy burdens for us to carry and will let people ride over us, but if our hearts remain pure before Him, the end result will be abundance and blessings for His people. Verse 14 reveals the idea that people often make deals with God or promise to worship Him at a deeper level when they are in trouble in order to move God to deliver them. The psalmist however keeps his promise to worship God even after the Lord delivers him. We often pray and seek God when trouble comes, but cease to do so when He delivers us. This song encourages true worship of God no matter what circumstance we find ourselves in. Good or bad, give God your best praise. Verse 18 reminds us that harboring iniquity in our hearts deletes any hope of God hearing our prayers or our praise. Be encouraged saints, we serve an awesome God and as long as you and I live righteously and holy unto the Lord, He will hear and accept our prayers and our praise. Have a blessed day!
Chapter 65

David writes this song while enjoying a season of peace after being restored back to the throne after it was taken from him by his son Absalom. 2 Samuel 20 & 21 serves as the back drop to this Psalm. This song ascribes great glory to God as the Author of our salvation. David reminds us that God hears our prayers and He atones for all of our transgressions. Verse 4 declares that God blesses the ones He brings near to His presence. True satisfaction and fulfillment comes to those who simply enjoy being in the presence of God. The Lord is the hope for all the earth. He soveriegnly presides over the earth and all of creation obeys His every command. Verse 13 closes this song about by declaring that the meadows and valleys shout and sing joyful praises unto the Lord. If creation recognizes and praises the Lordship of our God, Humanity has no excuse why we cannot do the same. Be encouraged saints of God, the Author of our salvation is very much in control of our lives and of all creation. TRUST HIM as David reveals during peaceful times and in times of great turmoil and distress. All things happen through the filter of God's sovereign will. Our job is to simply praise and glorify His great name and obey His every command. Have an excellent day in the Lord. - The Elder -

Chapter 64

David wrote many of his songs while fleeing from enemy advances towards him. His two main pursuers were King Saul and Absalom, David's own son. This is another "Flight Psalm" where David beseeches God to hide him from the secret plans of the wicked. Everyone does not mean us well. Even those closest to us can some times be the catalyst for bringing about pain and problems in our lives. But no matter what the enemy's plans are, and no matter how the wicked plots and schemes, verse 7 reveals that God is our ultimate warrior and He will defend the cause of His people. Therefore child of God, REJOICE IN THE LORD and TAKE REFUGE IN HIM! Let praises fill our mouths, for the Lord will fight for us. His will be done in each of us! Take courage saints, our life is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). - The Elder -

Chapter 63

While fleeing from Jerusalem and his son Absalom, David writes another song of expressing his overwhelming thirst for the living God. Imagine being in a dessert and you haven't had any water for a few days. How thirsty would you be? Dehydration is causing close bouts with fainting. This metaphor explains how every believer should feel about God and the desire to know Him and to get close to Him. MY SOUL THIRSTS FOR YOU GOD! God's love is better than life itself and praise shall continually be in my mouth. In verse 4, David declares that as long as he lives, he will bless the Lord with joy no matter the circumstance. MEDITATE on the Lord when anguish or fear tries to over shadow your thoughts. For the LORD IS OUR HELP. Cling to the Lord and He will uphold you. God will exact the right punishment upon the wicked, but the believer's posture should always be one of trust, hope, and praise unto our great God. Make it an awesome day and know that following God does not prevent trouble, but it provides opportunity for our hearts to align with God's and it creates unique moments to praise our great God in the beauty of holiness.
- The Elder -
Chapter 62

This is yet another Psalm David writes after a successful coup of his throne by his son, Absalom. For this moment in King David's life, it seems that he may have lost everything God had given him as king. However, David places his full confidence in God declaring that he will wait on the Lord, the author of his salvation. GOD ALONE IS MY ROCK, SALVATION, and DEFENSE, I WILL NOT BE MOVED! The sad part about being ousted from the throne came by the hands of people who blessed with their mouth, but inwardly had evil motives. Even so, David said that he would wait for the Lord and that his expectations came from God. Again, GOD IS MY SALVATION, GLORY, REFUGE, and STRENGTH. The command then is to TRUST GOD AT ALL TIMES, and do not be afraid to POUR OUT YOUR HEART to the Lord. David closes this song by the continual reminder by God, that POWER BELONGS TO HIM, and that He will reward every person according to his work. Be encouraged saints of God and never be shakened by your circumstances because the Lord is our Rock, and we will not be moved! - The Elder -

Chapter 61

"LEAD ME TO THE ROCK"! These are the words David penned in this song after fleeing Jerusalem from his tyrannical son. Before leaving, King David made sure that Israel's most important icon, the Ark of the Covenant, was properly taken care of (2 Samuel 15:24-28). David cries unto the Lord to hear his prayer. David begged God that when his heart is overwhelmed, to lead him to the Rock that is higher than himself. That Rock of course is our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. He is our shelter and a strong tower of defense against enemy forces. In the midst of such trouble, David declared that he would abide in the Lord's tabernacle forever, and will trust in the shelter of His wings. David acknowledges that GOD HEARS HIS PRAYERS, and that the Lord will prolong his days. Mercy and truth are our preservatives and therefore we must sing the Lord's praise and daily live out this covenant regardless of our circumstances. Be encouraged saints of God and RUN TO THE ROCK whenever you feel overwhelmed. - The Elder -

Chapter 60

This is a strange Psalm in that David and his men has just experienced victory over their enemies (2 Samuel 8). However, David starts out this song with the idea that God is displeased with them and therefore has scattered and cast them Away. Verse 3 declares that God has shown His people HARD THINGS. Have you ever felt that you were in a hard place? LIFE IS HARD, and God has been known to be the author of such hard places all for His glory. Nevertheless, David acknowledges that God is holy and His words and deeds have the foundation and its reasoning filtered through His holiness and His sovereign will. At the end of this Psalm, David recognizes the futility of fighting battles without God or with a dependence on humanity. Only with God on our side can we fight valiantly and be victorious. Take courage saints and never try to fight or face life's troubles in your own strength or in dependence on other people, but place your full faith, confidence, and trust in a sovereign God Who knows, sees, and will deliver us in His Own way and time. Make it a memorable day by just simply walking with your Lord and Savior, and let His love shine in and through you.
- The Elder -
Chapter 59

Here is yet another Psalm of David beseeching God for deliverance from those who desired to kill him. In 1 Samuel 19, both Jonathan, King Saul's son, and Michal, the king's daughter and David's wife, saves David from the angry and jealous hand of Saul. While in exile, David writes this song to ask God to defend him against those who rose up against him. David acknowledges how the enemy plots and plans his ruin, but in verse 9, David again finds himself running back to God, his strength and defender. David affirms his trust in God in verses 16 and 17. Take courage saints of God. The Lord is our shield and defense. He is our strength, and He will have mercy on everyone who fears and trusts in Him. Make it a wonderful day and always find a song of God's goodness to sing no matter what situation befalls you. - The Elder -
Chapter 58

David's enemies have been defeated and he returns to the throne when he writes this song. This Psalm simply affirms the fact that God is the righteous judge of the earth, and He will exact vengeance and proper sentencing on the wicked and those who persecute His people. While the believers reward might be delayed, it will surely come nonetheless because God judges rightly and will reward every person according to deeds done and according to the acceptance or rejection of God's grace and salvific provisions He made for all of humanity through the atoning death of Jesus on the cross. Make it an exceptional day, and do not worry about eternal justice, it's all in God's hand, and the judge of the earth will do what is right according to Abraham (Genesis 18:25). - The Elder -

Chapter 57

If you could exact vengeance on someone who hated you or who came after you to kill you, would you do it? Would you show respect to someone who disrespected you? David responds to these questions righteously while being pursued by King Saul who hated him due to jealousy over David's popularity with the people. Saul and 3000 of his men went after David, but David and his men hid in a cave in the wilderness of Engedi (I Samuel 24). By chance, Saul went into the same cave to rest. David recognized it was the king and while the king slept, David went up to him with a knife. But instead of killing the Lord's anointed out of respect for God and the king, David cut a piece of his garment as proof to the king that he could've killed him, but chose not to out of his love and respect for the king. How many of us would have done the same? After winning back the heart of the king when he realized David meant him no harm, David writes song number 57. David starts out Psalm 57 by asking God to BE MERCIFUL UNTO ME,  because MY SOUL TRUSTS IN GOD! David acknowledges that God sends help from heaven in the time of need. In his praise, David declares for God to BE EXALTED. Though my enemy comes against me declares David, MY HEART IS FIXED AND I WILL SING AND GIVE GOD PRAISE. Take courage child of God, never let any circumstance be greater than God and His ability to deliver you. No matter what you face, EXALT AND PRAISE GOD with all of your heart. The Lord knows, He sees, and He will deliver us in His time and in His own way. Make it a Terrific Tuesday. - The Elder -

Chapter 56

Have you ever played crazy? Have you ever appeared to be insane to other people? David writes this song when he was in fear of his life while fleeing from King Saul. He fled to a place called Gath where a man named Achish was king (1 Samuel 21:10-15). Because he feared King Achish, he disguised himself as a psychotic and one who had mental issues. His strange acts included scratching doors and drooling at the mouth. King Achish wanted no part of him and left David alone. This is a companion song to Psalm 34. In this song, David asks for God's mercy regarding his enemies. In the midst of such anguish, David in verse 4 always finds a way to praise God and to put his total trust in the Lord. Therefore, what need is there to fear what anyone can do to you? David was confident in the fact that GOD IS FOR ME (verse 9). The Psalm informs us to PRAISE & TRUST GOD and to BE NOT AFRAID! As long as we walk righteously before God, He will keep us from falling. On this Memorial Day, rejoice in the Lord and know that God is our ultimate veteran. He has fought all of our battles and gives the freedom to live our lives as unto Him. Happy Memorial Day to all of our veterans! - The Elder -

Chapter 55

This is yet another Psalm David writes after his son successfully ousts him from the throne leaving him with a heavy burden in his heart. This song encourages God's people to cast their burdens on the Lord. An important lesson David provides for his hearers is to be honest with your feelings when communicating with God. David acknowledges that his heart is sore pained because of the threats of the enemy. In his complaint, David wished that he could just fly away like a dove and find rest. In other words, if he could just run away from his problems, he would be alright. I have felt like that many days because the pains of life seemed unbearable. The other issue that brought David great pain in verses 12-14 was the fact that it was not an enemy that brought such reproach, it was his familiar friend who walked and worshiped with David that led to feelings of deep betrayal. But no matter what, David exclaims in verse 16 that he call upon the Lord who will save him. He posits that prayers will go up before the Lord day and night. CAST YOUR BURDEN UPON THE LORD! TRUST GOD in every circumstance. Saints of God, always find your way back to praising and worshiping God no matter what befalls you. Make it an awesome day for Jesus! - The Elder -

Chapter 54

This is another situation where young David is fleeing from King Saul. The scene is 1 Samuel 23:24-28 where David has escaped to a mountainous area in the wilderness. And just before Saul could catch up with him, a messenger intercepts Saul to warn him that the Philistines are about to attack them. That brought immediate relief to David and he called that place where he was hiding in the mountain, SELA-HAMMAH-LE KOTH. It means the rock of escape or the rock of separation. Meaning, that the hard places we may find ourselves in, are places God will use to deliver and bring relief to us and use a testimony to others of the grace and goodness of God. Psalm 54 is a song written by David beseeching God to save him. David intimates the fact that there are people who wish to do him harm, but in the midst of such turmoil, David exclaims that GOD IS MY HELPER and that God will reward the evil doer according to his deeds. David's focus was to praise God no matter what because God has and will deliver us from ALL our troubles. Take courage saints, the Lord sees, knows, and is very present with us through every trial, situation, pain, persecution, or any form of adversity. TRUST GOD ALWAYS! We win in the end. Make it a Satisfying Saturday! - The Elder -

Chapter 53

King David is in awe of God's glory and presence when he writes this song as an indictment against anyone who says there is no God. Such people are simply fools. Without God, there is no understanding and none have to ability to do good or seek after Him. A life devoid of God is a filthy life. But God is indeed present in the lives of those who are righteous and The Lord is our refuge! Make it a great day & a great week starting with this FANTASTIC FRIDAY! - The Elder -

Chapter 52

This is another one of David's flight songs while he was fleeing from King Saul who wanted David killed due to his jealousy of David's popularity. In this song, David warns those who think they are so mighty that they do not have anything to boast about or think they may have the upper hand over the righteous. The goodness of God is never ending and He will defend and vindicate His people. The song reveals the heart of wicked people. They have deceitful tongues, they love evil over good, and lying rather than to speak righteousness. God says the wicked will be destroyed and the righteous will see and fear God. Additionally, the song declares that the wicked put their strength and trust in money and earthly wealth, and they get their energy from choosing a wicked and ungodly lifestyle. But David goes on to say that he will flourish in the house of God and will TRUST IN THE MERCY OF GOD FOREVER! David said that he will praise God forever because He has done it (WON'T HE DO IT?). He closes the psalm by declaring that he will wait on the Lord's name for His name is good before the saints. People of God, take courage, and live righteously and holy before the Lord daily. God's mercy, grace, and goodness is the inheritance of His people. - The Elder -

Chapter 51

This song of King David reminds us of what true repentance sounds like. Even when there isn't any overt sin in our lives, the words of this psalm are good to utter to stay in a humble place with God. "Wash me thoroughly"; "Cleanse me from my sin". David recognized that his sin was an affront the holiness of God and God only (verse 4). God delights in the evidence of truth and righteousness in our lives. "Purge me hyssop and I will be clean"; "Wash me Lord and I will be whiter than snow". Though David's sin made him feel like a failure and heavy of heart, he asked God hide His face from his sin and to blot out his transgression so that he might experience joy and gladness again (verses 8 & 9). My favorite statement is verse 10, "CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART O GOD, AND RENEW THE RIGHT SPIRIT WITHIN ME"! Verse 12 beseeches God to RESTORE THE JOY OF SALVATION and to uphold him with His Spirit. David propounds in verse 13 that he has learned his lesson and he will teach other sinners the ways of God that they might experience conversion as well. Sin causes one to feel very guilty and feel far away from God. David asked God to deliver him from feeling guilty in verse 14. God is not concerned or impressed with a person's sacrifice or worship if there isn't a genuine brokenness to one's sin. When one's heart is right with God, the Lord delights in our praise. Take courage saints. God is a forgiver of sins, but that kind of love and grace should not give us the freedom or license to continue living in sin. He delights in a broken and pure heart of worship. Lets give it to Him. He deserves a pure praise.

Chapter 50
Judah is smitten by the Edomites (2 Chronicles 28:17-19) and taken captive by the enemy all because their leader, King Ahaz, misled them and transgressed greatly before the Lord. Asaph writes this song to proclaim God as the supreme Judge of all the earth. The Lord is great and awesome, the earth and sun declares the Lord's greatness. This song informs us that God is not impressed with one's sacrifice or worship when one's motive and heart isn't pure. Being truly thankful in all things is what God seeks from those who worship Him (verse 14). For those who are truly thankful and call upon His name, God will deliver them in the time of trouble. But the wicked have NO right to call upon Him or utter His word upon their lips because they refuse to follow His commands, they align themselves with thieves, and keep company with adulterers (verses16-18). Such wicked people commit all forms of evil and the Lord rebukes everyone who chooses to live sinful lives. This song is a reminder to God's people while they are in captivity that those who offer God a sacrifice of thanksgiving with a pure heart, who lives a righteous and holy life, will experience salvation and deliverance from God. Saints of God, let us live right and ALL TIMES, and offer God pure worship and thanksgiving. In the end, He will deliver us in times of trouble. Make it a banner day in the Lord. - The Elder -

Chapter 49

Why should we fear in times of trouble? Life's playing field is a leveled one. The rich, the poor, the high, and the low will all experience the same end result which is death. However, the 15th verse provides encouragement for the believer. Sinner and Saint alike may die, but the Lord will deliver His people from death and receive us into glory. Therefore, be not afraid or envious of the wealthy and wicked, God will judge us all, but in the end, only the redeemed will experience eternal life and the richness of heaven forever. Be encouraged saints of God, the Lord is in control! - The Elder -

Chapter 48

In the midst of the evil reign of King Ahaziah, the sons of Korah write this song to affirm the greatness and Lordship of God even in the midst of the evil leadership of their earthly king. Great is the Lord and powerful is our great God. The Lord will guide us even unto death. Therefore saints, let us put our trust and confidence in God no matter who are the leaders of our country, states, or cities. The Lord is in control and He is our great God and King. Have an awesome day in the Lord! - The Elder -

Chapter 47

David's son Solomon is now the anointed king of Israel. The sons of Korah write this song during the inauguration season of Solomon the king to celebrate the Supreme Lordship of God, the great king of all kings. Clap your hands and sing praises to our Lord, because He is King and He will protect and keep His people. The 7th verse declares that we should sing praises with an understanding. The trials and tribulations of the saints provides an experience with God that causes those who worship Him to do so with an understanding because of the troubles experienced in this journey. Therefore, what we go through has a purpose. One of which is to give us testimonies that provide the surety and evidence of the greatness of God. Be encouraged saints, God sees all, knows all, and is very much in control. - The Elder -

Chapter 46

A fierce battle emerged during the reign of King Jehoshaphat when the Moabites and Ammonites raged war against the people of God (2 Chronicles 20). The Lord delivered His people without them having to fight their own battle. 2 Chronicles 20:15 declares that the battle is the Lord's and not the peoples'. The sons of Korah writes Psalm 46 as a result of this battle. The song starts out by declaring that GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH, A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TIMES OF TROUBLE. What a comfort to know that God covers us and has our back in ALL things. For this reason, believers in Christ have no need to fear, even if the earth itself begins to move. Take courage saints, God is in he midst of every one of our situations, trials, tribulations, issues, pain, and the stresses of life. GOD IS WITH US! GOD IS OUR REFUGE! What then should be our response? The answer is found in verse 10, "BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD"! Even in the midst of bad reports, be still and see the salvation of our great and awesome God. He is with each of us! - The Elder -

Chapter 45

This Psalm is believed to have been written during the early stages of Solomon's reign, King David's son. His throne and majesty exceeded that of kings before him. 1 Chronicles 29:25 sums up the glory of his reign declaring that the Lord magnified Solomon greatly in the sight of the people and bestowed upon him such royalty unseen before in Israel. The Psalmist writes this song under the Holy Spirit's inspiration as a tribute to or prophetic insight into the reign and majesty of the coming Messiah. This song is rich with theology concerning the deity and glory of King Jesus, our Messiah, Lord, and Savior. As you read Psalm 45, read it with Jesus in mind as the one being addressed by the song writer. Verse one addresses a King. Verse 6 refers to the King as God. Verse 7 gives us insight into the Godhead regarding the Father and Son and should be understood as: ..."therefore God (the Son), thy God (the Father), has anointed you with the oil of gladness above everyone else". It might seem that the scripture is referencing two Gods even though we know there is only one God (1 Corinthians 8:6), but this verse uniquely points out the deity and person-hood of both the Father and the Son. The 11th verse references the Church, the Lord's bride, who He desires greatly and sees her as beautiful. In other words, the Lord sees His Church as "HOT" in a sensual sense of the word. Take courage believer, the Lord is madly in love with you. Verse 17 lets us know that His name shall be remembered in every generation and that we will praise Him forever and ever. Make it a Thankful Thursday and know that we serve an awesome God who in turn sees us as His awesome bride. Be encouraged!

Chapter 44

The sons of Korah writes this psalm during the reign of King Hezekiah and the prophetic voice of Isaiah the prophet (2 Kings 19 & Isaiah 37). King Hezekiah has a troubled spirit resulting from the King of Assyria's desire to destroy Israel and the sons of Korah writes this song to remind the king of God's deliverance in times past. Verse 3 is a reminder that Israel's victories were not the result of their military might, but it was the favor and hand of God that caused them to overcome. In God we must boast, not in our strength or abilities. Confusion begins to set in because God appears to be silent or absent resulting in what appears to be great losses by His people. The song takes a turn in verse 17 to affirm their commitment to God even if it seems God has forgotten them. Our hearts will never turn back no matter what the enemy does or what God allows. The song ends with asking God to arise and redeem His people for His mercies sake. Take comfort saints, the Lord is on our side and He is with us, though at times He appears distant, but we know He is always forever near. Have a Wonderful Wednesday. - The Elder -

Chapter 43

David writes this song as he continued to experience anguish and uncertainty from being ousted from the throne. This is a time where David is experiencing some discouragement from what appears to be a lack of empathy and response from the God he has placed his trust in. David asks God, "why have you rejected me". I am sure many believers can relate to David's plight. We often wonder where God is when we are facing situations that bring pain or hurt in our lives. In times like these, we have to ask ourselves the same questions David asked himself, "why am  I cast down", and "why do I have feelings of being in turmoil"? Is there a reason we have to be down when we serve such a great and awesome God? David asks God to send out His light and truth and to let them lead him through this trying circumstance. David then commands himself to HOPE IN GOD and that the path he takes will lead him back to the house of God where praises will continually be made for God Who brings salvation and deliverance to His people. Be encouraged saints and make this a Terrific Tuesday in Jesus name. - The Elder -

Chapter 42

This is another favorite Psalm many like to quote, especially verses 1 & 2. "As the deer pants for the water, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God..."! The picture of one of desperation and urgency. Just as the deer runs hard and is focused on getting to the water, its a beautiful picture of a believer's desperate need for a Savior and for God's presence everyday. The psalmist describes being in pain to the point of all night tears. Ever been there? Can you relate? The psalmist had to remind himself of times past where he led the procession to the Lord's house and the praise and worship service. Recollecting caused him to look inward and to self-prophesy why the down feelings and thoughts of anxiety and anguish. The psalmist COMMANDS HIMSELF to place his hope in the Lord. Earthly and spiritual enemies may taunt us and attempt to discourage our hearts, but we must follow the psalmist command to place our trust and hope in God and to not let our hearts be troubled. We have no reason to feel cast down or feel forgotten, the Lord will never forget and He is worthy of all praises, at all times, in every circumstance, in every place!!! Make it a Marvelous Monday in Jesus name! - The Elder -

Chapter 41

David's heart is broken when writing this song because someone very familiar to him, someone very close him that he trusted and shared intimate time with has turned against him (verse 9). Has this ever happened to you? This someone is his own son and confidants who chose to follow Absalom when he took the throne from his father, David. In his anguish, David starts out by reminding himself that God takes care of those who take care of the poor as he has done as king. David equated caring for the poor as a means for God caring for him. Who can the king trust? Everyone who gets close to him has an agenda (verses 6 & 7). David selfishly prays for strength so that he can wrought vengeance on his enemies in verse 10. Though it is written, this kind of mindset is not prescribed for believers. God declares that vengeance is his and that we should love our enemies. He ends by declaring his integrity and the wonderful fact that God allows David PERMANENT ACCESS to His presence. The Lord deserves our praise now and forevermore. Do we agree? Make it a Sacrificial Sunday and praise God in the beauty of holiness! - The Elder -

Chapter 40

This is another one of David's flight songs when he was fleeing from Absalom, his son and enemies after a successful coup that ousted David from the throne. David writes Psalm 40 to cry out to God for help and deliverance. In the midst of his trouble, in verse 3 David declares that God has given him a new song. Sometimes our best praise, songs, books, or other expressions of our experiences comes when we are in the most pain or distress. This song encourages us to trust in the Lord and to not believe the lies of the enemy. It also encourages us to testify of God's goodness no matter what situation we find ourselves in. This song also warns against offering God sacrifices if we are not simply delighting ourselves in Him. I am so glad that no circumstance can prevent the Lord from extending mercy, help, and deliverance to us in our time of need. The Lord will deal with any haters or enemies, but we must remain focused on His steadfast love and to always rejoice and be glad in the Lord. Make it a Sensational Saturday and know that God sees everything we go through and delivers us in His Own way, in His Own time!

Chapter 39

It seems that David writes this song after God's anger was kindled against King Saul and as a result, God chooses for Himself another one that would eventually become King. Samuel the prophet is directed by God to go to the house of Jesse and anoint the next king of Israel (1 Samuel 16). Samuel eventually finds a young ruddy looking boy named David and under God's direction, anoints him as king. However, before David is anointed, song #39 is written, a song where the shepherd David measures his days by making certain declarations to God. This Psalm reveals David's humility and his desire to live holy and righteous before God. He seeks deliverance from all of his transgressions. This refreshing Psalm reveals the heart of a young man who wishes only to lease God. Make it an epic day filled with joy and a heart to please God in all your ways.

Chapter 38

The sound of TRUE REPENTANCE! Scripture portrays King David as a righteous man and one who God said was a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22). Yet, there was a very dark time in David's life where he sinned miserably by committing adultery with Bathsheba, getting her pregnant, and facilitating the death of her husband to cover up his sin. In 2 Samuel 12:1-15, the Prophet Nathan rebukes King David for his sin. The result, Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51, & 103. As we look at Psalm 38, it reveals what true repentance sounds like for someone, even a believer, after falling into sin. Many people have used David's failure as a means to clear them of their own guilt or to excuse their sinful behavior and the freedom to continue in their leadership positions in the church. However, there are a few points to remember regarding the aforementioned sins of King David : 1) He did not have multiple failures of adultery or murder. In other words, he did not practice a lifestyle of sin. 2) When confronted by the Prophet Nathan with his sin, David REPENTED. 3) David suffered significantly and punished by God for his acts of sin. One of the results is song #38. Read the entire Psalm, but verse 18 sums it up in my opinion; "I confess my iniquity and I am sorry for my sin"! He closes the song by asking the God Who saves to not forsake him and to make haste to help him. Make it an epic day, and know that living a sin-free life is the lot of every believer, but if we choose to sin, repentance sounds like Psalm 38. - The Elder -

 Chapter 37

It is unclear where this song fit in the life of King David, but it is one of the most encouraging and quoted Psalms in scripture. David is encouraging the Lord's followers to not be concerned about the life, success, or fate of evildoers because they will be cut down. Unbelievers cannot stand and will fall in the end. Instead, believers should place their trust and confidence in the Lord. Our daily focus should be to delight ourselves in the Lord and to commit our lives, family, job, concerns, cares, issues, past, present, and our future to the Lord. REST and WAIT PATIENTLY FOR GOD! Take your eyes off of the prosperity of the wicked for they will eventually fall. Instead, we should rid ourselves of anger and wrath, and know that the believer will inherit the earth and enjoy an abundance of peace. Verse 16 declares that the little a righteous person has is more than the riches of the wicked because the believer's inheritance is everlasting. Famine will not affect us (vs.19)! We must continue to show mercy to others and be givers (vs.21). Verse 23 declares that your experiences and things we go through are ORDERED by the Lord. Even if what we go through causes us to fall, the Lord will uphold us with His hand (vs.24). Take confidence in knowing that you and your seed are blessed. Don't judge the validity of this statement by what is evident in the present, but trust God's word and know that our children's story is still being written. See the end result not the current situation. God will never forsake us, but will forever preserve us. Therefore, WAIT ON THE LORD, deliverance is coming and help is on the way! Let us all be a personification of verse 37 - Let us be perfect in our walk so others can follow us. Our life should be a reflection of peace. Saints of God, trust Him, do good, never lose hope, don't worry about the success of the wicked, wait on God; He will and has already delivered us from evil and into an eternity of prosperity and peace. - The Elder -

Chapter 36

King David has just experienced his last war with the Philistines including defeating other giants who were relatives of Goliath (2 Samuel 21:15-22). David writes this song to expose the deceit and iniquity of the wicked. Evil minded people abhors what is good and his mouth is full of lies and deception. But David turns his praise and acknowledgements toward God and the excellency of His loving-kindness. God's deep love and righteousness is preserved for those who are upright in their living. In the end, the wicked and deceitful will fall and are unable to rise again. Therefore saints, take courage in the fact that the righteous are and shall always be victorious and don't worry about the plight of the unrighteous because their fate has already been determined. - The Elder -

Chapter 35

David is currently in flight mode as he writes this song. This is a song where David is pleading with the Lord to protect him from his enemies. David acknowledges the fact that people hate him without a cause and that lies and false accusations were hurled against him. At the end of the day, David always finds a way to praise God in the midst of it all. In the last verse, David states that he will praise God all the day long and continually speak of the Lord's righteousness. Saints of the Most High, make it a Marvelous Monday and know that it is alright to take your complaints and concerns to God. - The Elder -

Chapter 34

Have you ever played crazy? Have you ever appeared to be insane to other people? David writes this song when he was in fear of his life while fleeing from King Saul. He fled to a place called Gath where a man named Achish was king (1 Samuel 21:10-15). Because he feared King Achish, he disguised himself as a psychotic and one who had mental issues. His strange acts included scratching doors and drooling at the mouth. King Achish wanted no part of him and left David alone. David then writes one of the most prolific and quoted Psalms in scripture. It is probably second to the 23rd Psalm and many of the verses are quoted by worship leaders and ministers during a church service. David is saying, "I'm not crazy", I am a worshiper and I will BLESS THE LORD AT ALL TIMES; I will BOAST IN THE LORD; come and MAGNIFY THE LORD WITH ME. David exclaims, this POOR MAN CRIED and He heard me and saved me from ALL MY TROUBLES! David tells us to not worry about a thing because THE ANGEL OF LORD ENCAMPS (lives with; pays attention to) AROUND THOSE WHO FEAR HIM & DELIVERS THEM. For those who are going through bitter circumstances, TASTE (see and understand with your spirit) THAT THE LORD IS GOOD! As saints of God, we should: FEAR GOD, TRUST GOD, SPEAK TRUTH, DEPART FROM EVIL, DO GOOD, PURSUE AFTER PEACE! The Lord is close to those who have a crushed heart and feels low from life's circumstances. Though our afflictions are many, the Lord delivers us out of them all (verse 19). David closes out this Psalm with the encouragement that God will redeem His people and there is NO DESOLATION (adjudication of guilt) for those who trust in God. Make it a Sanctifying Sunday and know that God deserves our praise at ALL TIMES no matter our circumstances and He will deliver those who trust Him. God's people, BE ENCOURAGED! - The Elder -

Chapter 33

This is a companion song to Psalm 30 & 131. David writes this song after he allowed satan to tempt him to take inventory of his army. David's motive was to see how large of an army he had to determine the nation's ability to fight and win wars. God was angry because the Lord had been Israel's defense and the strength of the nation was the result of God's favor and sovereign rule over them and not the largeness of the army (1 Chronicles 21). In the midst of being disciplined by God, David exclaims to us that we should give God an excellent praise with our voices and instruments, because EVERYTHING that God does and allows right and based on truth. This song clearly shows God's sovereignty over creation and His command over EVERYTHING that happens on the earth. From the waters in the ocean that obey Him to the inhabitants of the earth, God's word and His thoughts covers every generation. No matter what goes on in America or the world, the Lord's principles governs the globe and every culture that possess the earth. Take courage saints, God is in control! However, great blessings comes to the nations who God is the Lord and to every believer (verse 12). Verses 16 & 17 proclaims the fact that man's resources, military might, or political strength does NOT bring victories, but it is God's hand and favor that brings victory or defeat. In the end, the Lord is our help and our shield, and the Lord can be trusted in all of our circumstances. God's mercy rests upon us and our hope is in Him. Make it a Sensational Saturday and know that God is in control yesterday, today, and forever! - The Elder -Chapter 32
This is one of my favorite Psalms because it reveals the mercy and grace of God to forgive His children of their sins and to never hold our sins against us (verse 2). This song also shows the heart of David to be transparent and repentant of the sins he is guilty of. David is honest about his sinful actions (verse 5) after he commits adultery and murder against Bathsheba and her husband, Uriah the Hittite. After David repents and God forgives him, he does NOT continue sinning as many people do who cite David's sin as a means of justifying their own sins. Psalm 38 & 51 are companion songs to this one where David writes worship songs to express his appreciation to God for being the forgiver of his sins. The Lord is our hiding place when we fail (verse 7), and the person that trusts God will experience God's mercy in times of great failure. This gift of mercy should not however give us license to sin over and over only for God to forgive us over and over. Shall we continue in sin that God's grace would abound? Answer: NO, God forbid (Romans 6:1-2). Take courage saints and have a Fantastic Friday and know that God forgives us, and justifies us, He doesn't hold our sins against us, but He expects us to live holy and be upright in our hearts and our actions. - The Elder -

Chapter 31

David again finds himself fleeing from King Saul, one who chooses David as an enemy. David writes this song to affirm his continued trust in the Lord and His ability to defend him from every attack by the enemy. The Lord is our rock and our fortress, and guides His people during their darkest moments. In verse 5, we see some familiar words uttered by Jesus on the cross, "Into Your hand I commit My spirit: The Lord, the God of truth, has redeemed me"! What better place is there to be than in the hands of our sovereign, loving, wonderful, and awesome God? David's desire is that he would never be ashamed of God and to never lose hope no matter how bleak the situation. Blessed be the name of the Lord. David closes by proclaiming to the followers of the Lord to "Be of GOOD COURAGE, and the Lord WILL STRENGTHEN the hearts of everyone who places their hope and trust in the Lord. Are you one of them? Make it a Thankful Thursday and know that God hears our prayers and may not deliver us when we want Him too, but He will deliver us in His Own time and in His Own way!

Chapter 30

David writes this song after he allowed satan to tempt him to take inventory of his army. David's motive was to see how large of an army he had to determine the nation's ability to fight and win wars. God was angry because the Lord had been Israel's defense and the strength of the nation was the result of God's favor and sovereign rule over them and not the largeness of the army (1 Chronicles 21). For David's pride and disrespect, God offers him three punishments: 3 years of famine, or three months of war and defeat, or three days of pestilence initiated by God. David was wise enough to let God choose his punishment, because God would be exert mercy even while dispensing judgment. God choose 3 days of pestilence and 70,000 men died (1 Chron.21:14). David buys a threshing floor to build an altar to repent of his sin. Ornan the Jebusite tried to give him the land, but David said he would not present God an offering that doesn't cost him something. As a result, David writes Psalm 30 extolling the Lord for his deliverance. He recognizes the Lord anger for his sin, but that His anger last only for a moment, but His favor is life. Weeping endures for a night but joy comes in the morning. Though God punished David for his sin of taking an inventory of the army, God was still merciful and heard his cry. God turned his mourning into dancing, and God will turn around hard situations we go through and cause us to dance and worship Him. David closes the song by saying HE WILL PRAISE GOD & NOT BE SILENT. Never be silent about the goodness of God in our lives, no matter how difficult our circumstances. Make it a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY in Jesus Name! - THE ELDER -

Chapter 29

Verse 11 offers great encouragement for God's people. The Lord WILL give strength and peace to His people. David writes this song after being restored back to the throne after it was taken from him by his son Absalom. 2 Samuel 20 & 21 serves as the back drop to this Psalm, and David is restoring order back to the kingdom. This song ascribes great glory and majesty to God. It commands everyone to give God the glory and honor that is due to Him and to worship Him in the beauty of holiness. To be holy means that we are set apart as the Lord's inheritance to live our lives deceased from worldliness, but alive unto God. This song recognizes the power of God's word to control floods, fire, break the strongest piece of wood, and to cause a deer to give birth. Be comforted in knowing that God is in control and nothing happens outside of His providence. Just praise Him in ALL things and know that strength and peace comes with being a believer. Make it a Terrific Tuesday in Jesus name - THE ELDER -

Chapter 28

David is in the midst of fleeing from his son Absalom, who has become his father's enemy when David writes this song. It is a prayer song where David is crying out to God to keep him so that he would not transgress as do the wicked. He proclaims that the Lord is his strength, the Lord hears his prayers, that the Lord is his shield and that he will praise God with his songs. Therefore, no matter where you are and how distressed you may be, never lose faith or trust in God, and know that God can be trusted because He is our faithful Lord, our strength and our shield. Make it a Marvelous Monday and take courage in the Lord, the lifter of our heads! - THE ELDER -

Chapter 27

Again, David finds himself in flight mode. His son Absalom conducted a coup and ousted David from Jerusalem, Israel's physical seat of power. While Absalom sends warriors out to kill David, his father, David writes another song to express the thoughts of his heart. How many times have you or I quoted verse 1: THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION, WHOM SHALL I FEAR; THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH! David declares that the enemy's plans will not succeed! Read and pray verses 4 & 5: ONE THING HAVE I DESIRED OF THE LORD, THAT WILL I SEEK AFTER, THAT I MAY DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE, TO BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD, AND TO INQUIRE IN HIS TEMPLE. FOR  IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE HE SHALL HIDE ME IN HIS PAVILION: IN THE SECRET OF HIS TABERNACLE SHALL HE HIDE ME, HE SHALL SET ME UPON A ROCK. David declares that he will seek God's face no matter what, even if others forsake him. In such trouble, David said he would have given up, but he remember the goodness of the Lord in times before. So when things seem a little gloomy for you, remember the goodness of the Lord in times past to encourage you to look forward to a brighter future! In the last verse, David exclaims, WAIT ON THE LORD: BE OF GOOD COURAGE, AND HE SHALL STRENGTHEN YOUR HEART: WAIT I SAY ON THE LORD! HAVE A SENSATIONAL SUNDAY, and may you forever rest in the loving arms of our LORD! - THE ELDER -

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 26

David writes this song distressed and confused as to why the King wants to kill him. Jonathan, the king's son and David's best friend, warns David of his father's impending efforts to kill him. David flees and writes this song. This is one of the prayer Psalms. Try praying this entire Psalm today. David is affirming his integrity and asks God to examine him as well. He also acknowledges that he has lived his life in such a way that doesn't warrant such treatment from King Saul. People may treat us wrong unjustly, but make sure to always walk as a man or woman of integrity. Hope you have a Satisfying Saturday! Hope to see you all 2morrow! - THE ELDER -

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 25

Once again, David finds himself fleeing for his life because King Saul wants him dead (1 Samuel 19). By now, David has married King Saul's daughter, Michal, and she learns of her fathers plans to kill David so she warns her husband and provides a way for him to escape. Saul is angry with his daughter for siding with her husband and not him. However, David escapes once again and finds himself writing another song. David is in anguish but affirms his trust in The Lord in spite of his heart being broken. In the midst of it all, David asks God to teach him his ways and for God to lead him in the path of truth. He asks God to forgive him of his sins. He proclaims the fact that the friendship or the secrets of the Lord are reserved for those who fear him. He acknowledges the fact that he is in trouble and asks God to bring him out of his distress. Finally, in verse 21 he proclaims that integrity and living right will preserve him and that he will wait on the Lord. So make it a Fantastic Friday, and understand that the righteous will go through trouble at times, but the Lord hears our prayers and he delivers us in his time. Have a restful and worshipful weekend!

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 24

What another beautiful song written by King David with so many popular & frequently quoted verses. The King writes this song after acquiring the Ark to bring it back to Jerusalem as a symbol of God's presence and the Nation's submission to God. As David is walking towards Jerusalem, a city that sits on a hill, that requires walking upward and surrounded by natural beauty. He begins the Psalm by recognizing who owns the earth and everything & everyone in it. David asks, who can ascend to the hill of The Lord and who can enter the house of The Lord. The answer, those who have clean hands (living righteously) & those who have clean hearts (pure thoughts & motives). This kind of person will be blessed. Just before entering the city, David sees the gates and metaphorically tells them to lift up their heads because the King of glory (the Ark) was about to enter. WHO IS THE KING OF GLORY - THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and He deserves our worship, honor & praise. Make it a Thankful Thursday and be sure to keep your hands & heart pure before God & man. - THE ELDER -

This song is the most famous of all the Psalms and perhaps the most known and quoted chapter of all time. It's the one chapter mom taught us to remember growing up in the Outing Household. It's the one chapter that clearly reveals Who God is in relation to His people. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD! What more needs to be said? A shepherd leads, guides, protects, defends, feeds, & cares for his sheep. Sheep are generally ignorant & defenseless and need a shepherd in order to thrive and live in peace.
PT. 2
David writes this song write after defeating and killing the giant, Goliath. After this huge victory, King Saul made David live in the home with him and wouldn't let him return home. David himself is a shepherd and now saw God as his Shepherd and he is the Lord's sheep. The green pastures and still waters is likened unto all the blessings that come when living with the King. The valley of death is a reminder of the valley where he faced death fighting Goliath. My friends, know that God is our Lord and Shepherd, and that mercy and goodness follows us daily. We are members of God's household and we live in constant favor with God. Have a Wonderful Wednesday in know there's a Shepherd that covers us daily!

"Psalm Nugget", Ch 22

This is one of the most prophetically rich Psalms that points to Christ on the cross. Read verses 1,6-8,13,16-18,22,31 and think about verses in Matthew, Mark, Luke & John that records the events surrounding the crucifixion. David is feeling forsaken after his son, Absalom, overthrows him and seeks to kill him. Just as it was with Jesus, David is hated by his own. Wow, read verse 18. The same happened to Jesus. I am intrigued by verse 24 where David realizes that God has Not forsaken him and neither did God His Son. Though at times we may feel forsaken, God could never actually forsake His own. God simply uses those seemingly forsaken times to accomplish His will in our lives just as He did with Christ. The kingdom is the Lord's and His seed shall always serve Him. Make it a Terrific Tuesday after having such a Marvelous Monday.

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 21

Currently, the Church and world is enjoying the first day after the resurrection. Thank God, JESUS LIVES. Historically, King David has just experienced another victory over his enemies, the recent death of his first born, but the restoration of his heart through the birth of his second son, Solomon. The one who will succeed him as King and a progenitor of Christ. David writes this song expressing joy over The Lord's salvation. David is simply praising God for His many blessings. David maintains his trust in God no matter what highs and lows life has dealt him. He acknowledges that none of the enemy's plans will prevail. He closes the song by exalting The Lord and praising Him according to His power. Be encouraged Saints, and praise God through your highs and the good times, and praise Him equally through your lows and times when your heart maybe heavy or broken. Happy after Resurrection day and everyday! - THE ELDER -

 "Psalm Nugget", Ch. 20

Today marks the most important day in history. Jesus defies nature by rising from the dead with all power in His hands and the fate of our eternal future made secure as our living Lord. Our hearts are filled because the tomb is empty. (Selah)
King David writes the 20th song as a reflection from his victories with Israel's enemies (2 Samuel 10). He declares that God hears our prayers and defends us with His name. Verse 5 states that we should up banners. A banner is something you put on display as a reminder of something or to convey information. May our lives be a reminder to ourselves and others of God's faithfulness and standards. We are all ANOINTED, and God hears us and saves us. Verse 7, some trust in their resources, but we as believers trust in the name of our Lord. How befitting is verse 8 on this Easter Sunday, WE ARE RISEN because Christ is risen. Therefore, we should STAND UP STRAIGHT with the confidence of one who is REDEEMED! Happy Resurrection Day! Enjoy life as we prepare for eternity! - THE ELDER -

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 19

Today, historically is a sad and gloomy day. Almost 2000 years ago, Jesus has died and His body is resting in a tomb. David is about to enter some gloomy times because he is hated by King Saul and jealous of God's favor on his life. David writes song #19 right after he was anointed by Samuel to become king after Saul dies. He writes this wonderful song declaring that the sky and all of creation declares God's glory and it's voice is heard all over the world. David declares in vs.7 that God's word is perfect and it converts our souls, makes us wise, enlightens us, makes us rejoiceful, and that His ways are righteous and pure. We are to desire His word and His ways more than money or gold and that His word is sweeter than honey. God's word warns us and those who keep His word are rewarded both now and in eternity. PRAY THE WORDS OF VERSES 12-14:
"Cleanse me oh Lord from secret sins and keep me from the sin of taking advantage of your grace and mercy (presumptuous); may they never rule me and be innocent of sinful choices. LET THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH AND MEDITATION OF MY HEART, BE ACCEPTABLE IN YOUR SIGHT, O LORD, MY STRENGTH AND MY REDEEMER"-Amen!!! Have a Sanctified Saturday, and know that Sunday is coming and the tomb will be empty!!! - THE ELDER -

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 18

Today, April 18th, the world, especially Christians, commemorate one of two most greatest events of humanity's history. It was a Friday afternoon almost 2000 years ago when Jesus, the Son of God, God in the flesh, and our Savior, died on the cross for your sin and mine. (Pause & just thank and praise Him for His grace and mercy).
David writes this Psalm as a song of praise for God delivering him. How appropriate for this Easter season. This is a long Psalm, but rich with so much worship. To sum it up, David acknowledged that The Lord was his support, that God took notice of how he lived his life blamelessly and righteously; that God's ways are perfect and He is a shield for everyone who runs to Him. God is the Rock who gives us strength and equips us for our life's journey. We should sing unto His name because The Lord is our Rock and Hiding Place. He is our Salvation. As you reflect on Christ taking the beat down for you on today through His death on the cross, make it a Fantastic Friday and while He dies on Friday, just know that SUNDAY IS ON THE WAY!!! Love ya much,

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 17

Three verses stand out in this song. Verses 3, 8, 15 and words I will frame my prayer around. Meaning, that the hard places we may find ourselves in, are places God will use to deliver us and bring relief to us. David then writes song number 17. After asking that God hear his prayer, David says in verse three that God has proved his heart and has visited him in a time of darkness and has tried him but found nothing and David purposed in his heart that he would not say or do the wrong thing. Question, when God comes to you or me, will he find us doing right or wrong? And then in verse eight, David asked God to keep him as the apple of the eye and hide him under the shadow of his wings. The Apple of the eye is the pupil, and it is delicate, beautiful, and where light shines through. Meaning, God will provide protection and care for those he loves. Lastly, in verse 15 David declares that he will behold the face of the Lord as a righteous man and that every time he awakes he will awake with his likeness. When you woke up this morning, can you say within your heart that you woke up in the likeness of the Lord? Make this a great Thursday and know that God sees and knows where you are and He will protect and provide for you!

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 16

This is indeed one of the most prolific of all the Psalms. David has just become king, and while bringing the Ark of the covenant back to Jerusalem, he danced so much before the Lord and before the people that even his clothes was coming off of him. Even his wife got upset with him for dancing so much that he uncovered himself before the other women. Because the other women honored him and not his wife, Michal, she became Baron and had no children until the day of her death (2 Sam. 6:20-23).
King David, after being at home for a while enjoying rest in peace, he saw that he lived in a beautiful house but the Ark of the covenant which is the visible presence of God, had no nice place to reside in. He decided that he wanted to build God a big, glorious, beautiful temple that God could reside in. After praying a prayer, in 2 Sam. 7, David writes this song: Preserve me oh God for the I put my trust. Verse five says that the Lord is the portion of his inheritance and his cup. In other words, David saw that God and God alone was all that he needed. Verse eight declares that God is always in his heart and his mind and because of that, he will not be moved. The last four verses are prophetic verses concerning Jesus, but God uses David and his life to represent them. Verse 10 speaks of the resurrection and how Christ's body won't stay in the grave but he would rise again on the third day. Finally, in verse 11, LIFE, JOY and PLEASURE results from being in the presence of The Lord. Enjoy your day,
THE ELDER!

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 15

2 Samuel the 6th chapter is the backdrop to King David writing this song. The Ark of the Covenant, the visible and tangible symbol of God's presence, was taken from Israel by the Philistines. David and the army defeats them and eventually make an effort to bring the Ark back to Jerusalem. Instead of the holy priest carrying the Ark as The Lord commands, they put it on a cart and while riding it hit a bump and would've fallen but Uzzah touched it and was smitten by God as a result (2 Sam. 6:6). This incident led David to write Psalm 15 asking a question: Who can dwell in God's tabernacle and stand in His presence. David declares that only the UPRIGHT, RIGHTEOUS, THOSE WHO ARE TRUTHFUL, PEOPLE WHO TREAT THEIR NEIGHBORS RIGHT, THOSE THAT FEAR GOD, & ONE THAT DOESN'T USE THEIR MONEY FOR UNGODLY REASONS. Make it a Terrific Tuesday and remember God has a standard for us to live and worship by. Love ya, THE ELDER

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 14

Make it a great day & a great week starting with this MARVELOUS MONDAY! Love you much, The Elder.

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 13

David writes this song to encourage himself while being pursued by King Saul, who saw David as his enemy. David found himself hiding in the wilderness (1 Samuel 23:14-15) and asks God to not forget him or appear silent while his heart was sorrowful. At the end of the day, David declares that he will trust in the mercy of God and His power to save. David said, I WILL SING! Don't let anyone or anything stop you from singing. Sometimes we have to praise our way through a heavy heart and heavy circumstances. On this Palm Sunday, make it a worshipful and restful day. PEACE, from our Lord and from me, THE ELDER!

 "Psalm Nugget", Ch. 12

I love the first two words, "HELP LORD"! David cries out to The Lord in this song because it seemed that there were not many godly people left and the world was full of the wicked. They questioned the Lordship of God and oppressed the poor. But David was reminded that the word of The Lord are pure words and even though we may be surrounded by the wicked, God WILL PRESERVE HIS People! Make it a great Saturday and enjoy this beautiful day The Lord has made! - The Elder

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 11
David writes this song before becoming king while his life was in danger. King Saul wanted to kill him due jealousy of David's popularity and God's favor. He starts off by saying, I TRUST YOU LORD! Even if there are people who hate me and don't want me to succeed. What can the righteous do even if the foundational things are destroyed. No matter how it looks, God is in control and tests the will of individuals. But God loves righteousness and everyone who walks upright before Him. Make it a great day and remember to do what's right and ALL TIMES and know that God sees the righteous and the wicked. Everyone will receive their just reward either now or during eternity. Just be faithful and never lose heart. - The Elder

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 10

David writes this song after he finds out that Absalom, his son that took the throne from him and tried to kill him in the process, is now dead at the hands of King David's officers. The King is distraught because wicked people seems to be prosperous, but full of pride, never thinks about God, feels like they can get away with anything, oppresses and looks down on the poor, thinks that God doesn't care and has forgotten about His people. But God sees and knows and eventually will judge and destroy everyone that does not seek after Him. God is in control, and sometimes it might SEEM like He isn't, but He is! As you prepare for the weekend, trust your Heavenly Father and be not dismayed over the success or prosperity of other people. God will bless you in His own time! Peace Out - The Elder

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 9

King David and Israel has just fought victoriously a number of battles and writes this song praising God with his whole heart because of God's favor in defeating his enemies. God is the great judge and everyone who knows His name WILL TRUST GOD. The Lord hears our cries and will have mercy upon us. Verse 14 talks about praising God openly and publicly. Let us not be ashamed of Him. Make it a productive day my friends!-"The Elder"

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 7

David writes this song as he is fleeing for his life from King Saul who sought to kill him. The song beseeches God to deliver him from all of his enemies. In verse 10 he proclaims that God is his defense who saves the upright heart and people of integrity. Regardless of one's circumstances, we should praise God just because of who God is and that those who wish you I'll-will shall fall into the traps they set for you. We simply trust God. Make it a banner week! Much love, " The Elder"

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 6

This song was written by David as a prayer of intercession for his sick baby The Lord struck with sickness (2 Sam. 12:15) as judgment against David's sin of adultery and murder. So he writes a song for God to have mercy on him. David is crying uncontrollably for his baby's deliverance and is comforted by the fact that The Lord hears his prayer even though the outcome was different than he desired. The baby died, but David believed in the resurrection and knew that he will see his child again (2 Sam. 12:23). Be encouraged saints! God is a God of both justice and mercy! "THE ELDER"

Psalm Nugget, Ch. 5:

This song was written by David before he became king during the reign of Saul. Read 1 Samuel 18:5-19 for its context. Saul was jealous of David because the people ascribed greater honor to David. God sent an evil spirit to Saul (1 Sam 18:10). Saul was afraid of David because God was with him. David writes song. #5 to cry out to his King, God almighty. He acknowledges that God hates evil and wickedness. But David declared that he will worship God no matter what because God defends His people with a shield and God blesses His people with favor. Make it a great day my peoples! This is Pastor "D", over and out!!!

"Psalm Nugget", Ch. 4

Imagine your a king and having your own son wanting to kill you. Imagine you're the king but your son is successful in removing you and to prove it, have sex with all of your concubines. This is where King David finds himself in chapter 4. So he writes song #4 declaring that The Lord has set apart the godly for Himself. Those who love God stand in Awe of Him and does not live in sin. He commands us to put our trust in God no matter what we go through. My son wants to kill me, but God has put GLADNESS in my heart and He MAKES ME GO TO SLEEP IN PEACE!!! HIS CHURCH, no matter what, trust God. Make it a great day!!!

"Psalm Nuggets": Ch. 3

This song was written during the time where David's son Absalom, wanted to kill him so that he would become king instead of his father. But right after Absalom's threat was defeated, David and his people returned to Jerusalem with the Ark of the covenant. The Ark of the covenant represented the presence of God amongst his people. So as you read this song, read it in light of the fact that those who were troubling King David, that group of people was led by his own son who tried to kill him. So remember, that the Lord is a shield for you and me. He is our glory and the lifter of our head. The Lord hears our cries, and he will sustain us no matter what! Make it a great day, and know that the Lord loves you and so do I!

"Psalm Nuggets": Ch. 2

This song was written by King David after he expressed a desire to build the Lord a temple. It is one of the few psalms where every verse is a prophetic forward look to the coming Messiah. Read each of these verses with Jesus in mine, especially the seventh and the 12th verses. May we all spend our days kissing the Son of God. To kiss Him means you except Him, you receive Him, and that you're in right relationship with Him. Make it a productive day and know that God love you and so do I!

"Psalm Nuggets": Ch. 1

First of all, Psalms are actually songs. Most people think that Psalm one through 150 are written in order, but they're not. Psalm 1 was actually written during the time of Nehemiah and it was actually written after the longest psalm 119 that references the word of God in each of its versus. So now you can see how the Psalmist would write song one that talks about meditating on the word day and night. To delight in the Lord is to delight in his word, and to delight in his word is to delight in the Lord. People who meditate on and love God's word, are able to stand in the midst of any trial or tribulation. They will not want to hang out with the ungodly but to spend time with the Lord and other people who love him. Remember, be like a tree that's planted by the rivers of water and displays it's fruit to everyone. Make it a blessed day and know that God loves you and I do too!
